193's swirl port or not/differing opinions
I have a set of heads, and they appear to me to be 14102183, but I have not found them to exist and have been told by people that they are probably actually 193's. Are these swirl ports or not. On www.mortec.com they show them as efi heads from 87 and up but dont list them as swirl port which they do with some other heads. I have also found on other sites that they have 1.94 and 1.5 valves. I need to know if these are swirl ports or not. Would they be better or worse than lg4 heads? I have both and could use either. I will be using them on a 350 and my cousin is going to be doing some port work to them and matching them to the intake. I dont have them here and I have searched and some people said that they were swirl ports and some said that they werent, and some said how to tell by looking. Could someone please give me some insight. Also on another post a guy with a set of these said that he thought that they were seventy somthing cc combustion chambers. I thought that they were 64, does anyone know for sure? I need to know this stuff soon, because my cousin is supposed to do the heads tomorrow and I need to know whether to have him use these or the others.
Thanks
Ben

If you have the heads why not just look in the intake port.
If there is a flow directing vane at the guide, it's a swirl port head.
Pretty simple....

I've had a pic on here that showed the swirl. I have the 191's that do have the swirl port. They are also 76cc. I'm sure that GM used different size chambers with this casting. That's why you hardly ever see the chamber sizes listed in charts like Mortec.
Here's the pic. Unfortunetly, that's the only way to tell like F-BIRD'88 said, you have to look.
The swirl port was a poor attempt by GM to get the heads to flow more efficiently. Kinda like the Vortecs do now. In interferes with the flow a little.
There is a guy on here that says he's pocket ported them before, and gained ~30HP from doing that. There not horrible, just not great either.

Well I copied the adress out of the properties for your picture and pasted it into internet explorer. Is it that small lip on the bottom of the intake port? I am not real familiar with how they are supposed to look. Is it possible to grind that away and fix the problem with those heads.
Thanks for the help

Yea that's it. It's more than a lip. Imagine looking at one of those tornado slides (that they have down at the park) from a bird's eye view.
It's part of the casting. IE, very thick, and quite tall. I suppose you could grind it out, but it would take hours upon hours upon hours to grind it out.
You could spend a lot less time pocket porting a pair of better heads, and get better results.

Thanks for the info. I really hope that is not what I have. If it is I guess I will deal with it for now. I am just trying to get my car running again since my lg4 died. Do you think that if they are swirl port that I would be better off with them or lg4 heads.
Thanks

Oh, and by the way they are 85 lg4 heads. I also have a set o 73 350 heads, but with the intake port barely being larger than the exhaust port and the large combustion chambers I didnt think that they would be a wise choice.
