Neither of those is the casting #.
It will be about a 7 or 8 digit #; the last 3 of that are enough. Might be 638, 880, 207, etc.
Unfortunately the sheet metal it was last wrapped in doesn't identify it unless known for absolutely certain that it originally came there.

Re: What timming chain do I want to run?
May be a stupid question, but what happened to the original chain?

OK, should be a roller block then. Or at least, convertible to one.
Assuming you have (are buying) a step-nose cam and you have (will buy) a cam retainer and that your 638 is (will be) tapped for the "spider" thing to hold the figure-8 things of the factory roller setup and the factory cam retainer plate (one of them anyway, there are actually 2):
Cloyes 3145; there's a bunch of em, different prefixes suffixes letters numbers symbols etc., depending on how much bling you wanna bite off on. "Street", "original", "true", etc.
Comp 3136 is another reliable one. Probably what I'd go with to avoid having to decipher Cloyes' inscrutable marketing bull droppings.
Avoid the cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep chinesium junk no matter what else. CAT, no-name, "best price on ebay", etc.

Will this fit under a stock timming cover and do I need to clearance the block for this chain to fit?

May need to clearance the block; seems to be one of the "improvements" in those later-model blocks that has to be ... defeated.
Not sure about a "timming cover". Conjures up all sorts of strange mental images. Sounds like something we would catch Tim hiding underneath while he's committing an impure act.
However, it will fit under a stock TIMING cover. Something quite different, I suspect.
