Hello , what kind of fuel pump can I use for a 1987 Trans Am going from a TPI system to a carburetor?
Are there in tank fuel pumps for carbs?
Can an in tank EFI fuel pump be used with a fuel regulator to feed a carburetor. I assume in that case a bypass fuel regulator would be needed.
If an external pump is needed How do I connect to the tank?
Thanks for any help.

im actually looking at using a tpi pump with a regulator to run my 86 z with a carburetor. so i have a similar question as to if anyone sees a problem with that. I think it will be for the most part ok, but some more input would be reassuring for me

My car is a 1987. Another thing I am wondering about is that I know that in 1987 there were both fuel injected 3rd Gens and carburetor based 3rd Gens. With the carbureted 3rd Gens they would have used a normal mechanical fuel pump so they would have a normal gas tank pickup setup without a fuel pump in the tank. So could I get a carbureted fuel tank pickup and put it in my tank? My car has a digital dash, are the fuel gauge senders the same?

yes you can use a sending unit from a carbureted model with no pump in itOriginally Posted by beachrodder

Thanks for the reply fbirdroller.
Do you know if the fuel level sender would be compatable with the gauge on a digital dash?

Yes, ohm output didn't change until 4th gen. Originally Posted by beachrodder

i will agree, however i personally would hate to say with certainty that it will work, i don't see a reason for it to not work thoughOriginally Posted by anesthes

Thankyou for the information Joe (anesthes) and fbirdroller.
That really helps me out.
If that is the case then I will just run a mechanical fuel pump and get a new pickup/fuel gauge sender from a carbureted type car.
