Timing Chain Cover = PITA (have a few?'s)
I put the cover back on after 90 minutes working on it. I got upset and grided the corners a little bit. I know it wasnt the best move but I think it'll be ok. Now my ? is Can i put some RTV around the bottom of the cover and seal so that incase and littel oil does get through it wont get through the barrier of RTV. I know it would look gay buy I am painting the block black and going to paint righ tover the RTV What do you guys sugg?

Ground what corners? Are you talking about the lip on the bottom that wants you to have to drop the oil pain to get the cover back on? If so, I trimmed mine down. I have yet to see a drop of oil come out of there.
Yes, I know, there is a reason why they did that, but hell, that's what gaskets and RTV is for right?

Yeah, man. I studied what adverse effects trimming that tab down would be and I didn't come up with any. Nice rubber gasket and a nice bead of RTV ... no problems. I don't recommend it ... I guess, but I didn't and don't have any leaks there.
when i worked for ford, that was what the gm tech's across the parking lot said they do. they cut the inner lip at a 45 degree angle and rvt it good. use the black rvt and it blends in good also. they consider those "gravy jobs", i thought they were crazy till i found out why . they also said they do the cut the "trunk" fuel pump changes as well. i got my TA and looked , sure enough someone did it that way on mine too LOL

Now the cutting the hole in the truck for the pump is one thing I don't recommend. I replaced mine the right way. Something about cutting into the lines with a metal blade hitting metal objects and making sparks .....
Yes, it was a PITA, but hey ... gave me a good chance to purge the tank, replace the shocks, install my catback exhaust. See? It's all good!
