EGR.. to clean or to purchase new??

its not giving me a code. however im getting 12.5 MPG at best.

changed plugs (rapid fire), wires are in good shape, replaced O2, synthetic fluids, 32psi front tires, 30 rear, very gentle driving might get me 13 - 13.5 MPG.

i wanna replace the EGR since i don't know if it has ever been replaced. But could i save myself $45 and just take it off and clean it?

Since a new quality (from the dealer) EGR is 80 dollars or so, that'd be the last thing I'd change.

A thermostat that's stuck open (overcooling) will reduce economy, as will a clogged fuel filter.

thermostate is only a couple months old, and the fuel filter is pretty new also.

and i can get an EGR valve at autozone for $45.

If you think it's thr EGR just replace it to save taking the TPI plenum off twice.

i would say 'no' on getting the EGR from AutoZone..

i had all kinds of problems trying to find one that came with the correctly designed vacuum port on the top..

get the one at GM, save yourself the trouble (taht's what I did)..

my guess is that you're running rich.. try changing your Oxygen Sensor before anything else

my $0.02

O2 sensor has been changed a month or two ago.

and as far as the EGR goes, the guy at autozone said all i had to do was give him the # on the EGR and he could give me the correct one.

trust me, i'm telling you from experience man..

when it comes it will have an angled vacuum port which will require you not only to change the vacuum fitting on your vacuum line but also screw around trying to make sure it will work..

i also got one from Kragen, twice..

none of them were half decent so i said screw it and got the GM one
