engine runs rough, rich backfiring

my 89 gta is running really rough when I accelerate. Start up and idle seems okay, but once I give it some gas I get a vibration and the occasional backfire. I recently did the plugs, cap, wires and rotor. So what should I do now?

Re: engine runs rough, rich backfiring

If u cant afford a factory service manual then pick up a Chiltons for 20 bucks. U need to learn to diagnose and isolate the problems u have. W/o seeing the car we can only make guesses from 1,000 miles away. Yah, backfire on acceleration is frequently retarded ign but clogged fuel filter can do this to. Only u can see the condition of your engine controls and know its history. Most here would like to help would rather spend our time with something that has more information available.

What im saying is learn to diagnose before replace parts or changing settings.
