RPM reader

RPM reader
Have a question, honestly not sure. I understand the TACH's tend to read high (or can). even though this Camaro reads higher, and my other Camaro I had (same year, engine, etc.) never had that problem.
Is there a way to externally check the RPMs outside of the tach itself? Like a timing light (not sure how accurate) with some digital RPM reading? or an code scanner that can digitally read the RPMS (outside of the flashing engine codes). or anything? just wanted to see where I am at, especially since I had adjusted the base idle and if it's not reading right, than I may just be adjusting it wrong. appreciate it. thanks!

Re: RPM reader
Timing light with RPM read out works. I have this one I had it for close to 10 years now. Been a great timing light/RPM gauge. I use it all the time really. As far as testing tools goes this and a DVOM gets the most use in my shop.
A diagnostic tachometer would work as well, like a tach/dwell meter
