Tune up gone wrong. HELP

Hey everyone,

I have an 88 Iroc TBI 305 that i just installed new plugs wires and dizzy cap onto.

One of my distributor cap bolts snapped so i had to remove the whole thing which has lead to where I am.

The car is turning over with an occasional popping from the rear but wont start. I have tried so many different combinations along with putting the old stuff back on with no luck.

Im using 18436572 firing order clockwise

8 7
6 5
4 3
2 1 as my guide

TDC the rotor is pointing #1 cylinder
Plug gaps at .035

Ive tried moving the dizzy around with no luck also I tried rotating it 180. and I tried rotating the wires 180. No combination is working.

Any insight appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

That should work. Is there voltage at the coil primary? Is the four-wire flat connector clean and fully seated? Are the new plugs fuel fouled?

Re: Tune up gone wrong. HELP

Maybe what the OP thought was TDC on the compression stroke, was TDC on the exhaust stroke? Just a thought, especially since your getting a 'popping' out of the exhaust...

Re: Tune up gone wrong. HELP

Thanks for the replies,

I managed to get it going, after switching wires around again i found the #1 starting point was a post to the right. I cleaned the throttle body and put all new gaskets in it and cleaned up the IAC and TPS.

While doing the fuel filter a line broke, so that is my next ordeal.

I was still experiencing a high idle, it is reading at 2000 and fluctuating down to 1500. I don't have high hopes on the new fuel filter helping.

Any insight there would be helpful.

Thanks
