Unknown plug

I'm working on my 87 z28 I recently picked up. In the process of trying to hunt down the wiring for the temp gauge I came across another plug but I can't figure out where it goes. I remember seeing it on my other third gen but can't place it.
It comes from around the distributor and oil pressure sensor area.

Cam anyone help?

Re: Unknown plug

That is the plug for the oil pressure switch that runs the fuel pump . The orange and tan with white tracer wires are the giveaway on that .

Where there are only two wires on it , you must have had two units screwed into the block monitoring the engine's oil pressure , that one with it's two wires for the fuel pump and a different one with one wire for the oil pressure gauge on the dashboard .

That switch , BTW works in parallel with the fuel pump relay in that either/or will supply power to the fuel pump under the right conditions (when there is oil pressure and/or when the ECM tells the fuel pump relay to actuate .....

The car has been converted carb so I shouldn't need it but at least I know what it is now. Thank you very much.

Back to my hunt for the engine temp sender wiring....

If you are running a mechanical fuel pump with your carb setup and are not using the in tank electric pump you are right , you don't need those wires . Is the electric pump still in place and your using the mechanical pump to draw through it ? I would think in that situation it would flow fuel better if the original pump was removed ? But if you have no fuel delivery problems I guess I'd leave it till some other time ya end up having to work on the fuel tank , like if the gauge sender dies .

Oh , and , if your looking for the wire under the hood that controls the coolant temperature gauge , it'll be a solid green wire that's thinner (smaller gauge wire) than the ones for your fuel pump are .

I enjoyed reading your posts OrangeBird. I remember when I first joined TGO and if I would have received an answer like vango posted probably would not be on here today.

Hi Edward ,

Rusty and I talked and he told me he meant no meanness , it's understandable that sometimes things don't look the same in print as they do if we were just hanging out talking cars , so I'm all for giving the guy the benefit of the doubt and Rusty has MY apologies for jumping on him before speaking with him first .
