This is on an 88 Camaro, 305 TBI.

I was in the process of removing my tank to replace the fuel pump, and I wound up damaging the rubber crimped to steel supply line that goes from the fuel pump lines to the fuel filter.

I've found a couple Dorman repair items for that section of pipe, but they are all for repairing either the metal tube or the metal end fittings. They only work assuming you have the rubber part intact and undamaged.

In calling around to various dealerships, I've come across the fact that they actually discontinued this particular fuel line only a couple years ago.

So... does anyone know of a way to fix this line? I don't want to crimp my own rubber hose on... as it is the high pressure line I'd rather something pre-made, but I can't seem to locate anything that would do the trick.

 

That crimp is just to make it easier to assemble on the production line. High psi line and a clamp will work just fine.
If you are worried about it, try a local hydraulic shop. They should be able to do a crimp to the lines and fittings with your (or maybe their)
supplied high psi hose.

 

Yeah I took the two pieces to a local shop, and they quoted me almost $200 to make it.

So you think if I just chop off the hard line on either side of the rubber, and replace the middle with normal rubber high pressure fuel line and clamps, it will hold up to the pressure? My only concern would be the tube sliding off of the smooth hard line, is that concern enough to see if I can find a pipe beader or maybe flare the end.. or should it be alright with some FI clamps?

Sounds like that would be a damn easy way to go. Considering the amount of time I spent doing research on this, it would be great for such an easy fix.

 

TBI is what, 15 psi?
Low pressure fuel line would also work fine.

 

Cut off the outer crimp and then cut off the hose. The hard pipe is flared.

Not the best fit, but very close to OE. Only negative thing was that this did not come with the o-rings necessary to seal the lines at the fittings. They can either be transferred from the original line, or if they're broken you could buy new seals.

 

Did that come with the rubber section of line that attaches to the tank steel line fitting?

 

Yes it does. I had a side by side picture somewhere. If I can find it I'll post it up. If not I have the car on jackstands and will roll under there to get you a photo. It could be that I didn't position it right in the clamps with the other pipes, but I also had to leave my fuel filter clamp off because it let the pipe and filter threads line up.

 

Thanks. It's special order from Summit. Thinking of making my own out of braided line that I have leftover from another project. Just need to determine fitting thread size.

 

Making your own would definitely be faster and might be better flow, as well as you won't have to hunt eBay or a dealer for the right sized o-rings. While it was a special order part, it's really just a ship direct part IIRC. I think it came directly from the manufacturer, it didn't go to Summit first, then to me. Here's those pics, it's the hose/pipe with the brass colored fittings.

 

Yes, that's what I need. Thanks for the pics. I may just order it then if I have trouble getting the adapters to go from AN-6 to the stock size fittings.
