Yes.

TPI will prevent the oil pump from ever making any significant difference.

Just go to AZ, order what the computer shows, you'll be fine.

The stock melling oilpump will be just fine.

Re: Tpi, 350 performance oil pump options.

The oil pump in my BBC is Melling pump. Nothing special. It's not even a high volume pump. I don't need to fill the top of the engine with oil at 7000+ rpm.

The nice thing about an aftermarket pump is it may come with an option higher pressure spring.

The best thing you can do to improve the oil pump is to use an aftermarket shaft that doesn't use the plastic/nylon connector.

Old thread, but... what aftermarket shaft to buy that doesn't need the dumb plastic/nylon connector? I am rebuilding my engine over the winter and a new oil pump from melling is on my To-Do list...

Re: Tpi, 350 performance oil pump options.

Another way to improve the oiling system is to spend some time port matching and slightly porting and polishing the oil pump passages. Radiusing the edges of the oil return passages is also very helpful for oil return.

Re: Tpi, 350 performance oil pump options.

stock pump, pull the spring out and stretch it out, and radius the outlet inside the pump. SBC's have the best stock oil system ever made. be careful when buying a Meling oil pump, not sure if they have corrected this weak casting or not.

Re: Tpi, 350 performance oil pump options.

The last 3 smallblocks I have built, I used high pressure standard volume big block pumps in. They seem to work well.

LOL on a small block chevy if the cam bearing are not wasted no need for a high pressure pump, just add extra oil slinging around and robs a little hp.
