Hot Cam kit valve springs ?
Hot Cam kit valve springs ?
I am in the process of assembling my vortec heads using the springs that cam in the kit. As was the case with my heads I had to enlarge the spring seats to accomadate the larger diameter springs. Well in the process of doing this the cutting tool also cut down the diameter of the valve guide boss to the same size as that of where the seals install. Now the springs do not have the stability or are able to move around on the seat, this is not good. Is there a simple fix for this or am I missing something. If I use the seat washers that came in the kit, I assume these were to be used for aluminum head applications, it will cause my spring height to be .040 to short and I don't want to use offset locks unless I absolutely have to. Anyone have any suggestions or solutions that will get my heads together? I do want to do this the right way and not just a quick, but not so perminate, way.
Sorry for the long post but I want to do this right.

i wodl check befor ei used them. i think the LT1/LT4 has lightweight valves. the springs may not be able to handle the heavy duty valves that the vortechs have as well as the ligher LT1 valves.
not 100% on that, just something you may want to lok into.

Thanks NJ, I asked the guys a Scoggin ****y when I bought the kit and the said it would work. Would using valve spring dampers be a problem? Would this help the original problem I have with the guide being to small? Do dampers add to spring pressure? Are these springs made to be used with dampers? I need mo info. I guess I'll be making another call to SDPC soon.

You're getting lost now, wanting to put a damper in those
LT4 springs. NJ Speeder has a good point about using low pressure springs intended for a low mass valvetrain, on relatively
heavier vortec valves. You could have bought stock diameter
hi pressure ".600"lift H-11 springs" (Crane, Isky) and popped them on with the stock or vortec retainer with only a valve guide shortening
to increase the clearance between the retainer and seal. These would have the right pressure and dynamics to control your new
"Hot Cam".
If you want it done right, you might want to enlist the aid of a
qualified automotive machinist. He can/ may machine up a set of
"spring seat inner steps" ( a thick washer of the right dimentions)
to solve your ****up.
Somthings are better (and cheaper in the long run), left to the pro's.

I can machine the inner steps myself as I had aready thought about doing that. I guess that with the heavy valves I'll have to check into new springs as I'm sure it would be cheaper than new valves.
