TPI no power and stalling (need help from the guru's)

Ok guys i need some help
I have a 89 Camao 305 tpi and I'm pretty frustrated with it

It has this on going issue with stalling when going into drive or reverse and having no power

Previous owner has tried new injectors, Mass air flow, distributor, spark plugs/ wires, o2 sensor, fuel filter, torque converter, iac and he even had the motor rebuilt thinking it was a mechanical thing

The car has great fuel pressure and seems to run good other than have no power and stalling
the car wont stall if you crank then idle up or feather the gas into gear it wont stall

The timing and idle has been set properly (many of times)
The iac counts jump pretty high in park or reverse like it has a heavy load

any ideas? Coud this be a tranny issue some how?

Any help would be much appreciated!

I don't remember what the best way to check it was or what the numbers are supposed to show. Do a search, there's plenty of write-ups on it. Other thing I'd check is your EGR valve, just cap of the vacuum lines to and from it and see how it runs after that. It can affect you're idle pretty significantly if it's bad.

O sorry its at .54v
The injectors are new 19lb bosch and the fuel pressure is 45 to 48 psi
No check engine light

The iac count goes from 25 to 35 in park to 150 to 160 in gear

Re: TPI no power and stalling (need help from the guru's)

This is key to me:

"The car has great fuel pressure and seems to run good other than have no power and stalling the car wont stall if you crank then idle up or feather the gas into gear it wont stall"

So to clarify:

1. You have an idle stalling problem?
2. Car runs great other than that.

If so,

1. Check EGR
2. Check for vacuum leaks
3. Check the electrical connection quality to the IAC.

Sounds like a big vacuum leak to me.

Re: TPI no power and stalling (need help from the guru's)

Its mostly just a issue of stalling when going into gear...its like the iac cant compensate fast enough ?
It also doesn't seem to have alot of low end power

I will check again for vac leaks
The egr is brand new and vac line plugged up so i think it should be ok

Re: TPI no power and stalling (need help from the guru's)

Wonder if it's the park neutral switch, does rpm slightly increase in neutral ?

Re: TPI no power and stalling (need help from the guru's)

Yes it does and according to the scan tool the computer is seeing park and neutral.
This is a very weird issue....im not sure where to go with it at this point. Im now leaning towards possibly a tranny/converter issue ( even though the converter is new) or even thought mby it was the lock up but unplugged that with no change.

I did notice the brake pedal felt kinda hard.......is it possiblethe brake booster has a internal vaccum leak cause the idle speed to be set incorrectly and then when the brakes applied to shift into gear the vaccum leak goes away and the iac cant keep up?

I donno just a crazy thought....i will have to investigate

That's what I'm thinking. Vacuum. Computers can't see it. And it's an idle RPM issue.
