LG4 cam options

I know this has been asked time and time again, so I apologize for that. I am going to be pulling my LG4 out of my 84 Z28 to re-gasket it and have the heads freshened. What would be a good cam to go with while I have it apart and out. I was looking at a VooDoo cam 60100 that is 437/454 lift and 207/213 duration at 50 with a 112 LSA, or a H260 Comp cam with 440 lift and 212 duration at 50 with a 110 LSA. The car has headers, 2.5" Y pipe with the edelbrock exhaust system, no cat, no computer, summit intake, non CC q jet, aluminum water pump. It still has the factory T5 with 3.23 gears. any input on those cams or if anyone has a better suggestion that would be great. I am also looking at drive ability because the car is nearly a daily driver.

Re: LG4 cam options

Comp XE256

The Voodoo you list should also work well.

DO NOT use the 260 in a 305. You will regret it.

I have had 2 different 268/272 grinds in a 305 and both ran well although both had 9:1 compression or higher.

Re: LG4 cam options

I just installed Aerohead Racing prepared 601's and a Summit K1103 in my 85 Z28 5 speed. After 200 miles, I am totally impressed with the midrange of this cam. Another option is an Engine Pro/Speed Pro MC1988 or Comp Cams XE262H10.

Do a google search; "305 build"

Lots builds on the web.......Good luck

Super Chevy liked the K1103 as well.

Re: LG4 cam options

I'm not a big fan of "square" cams, but it's probably a personal preference in our applications. Clearly, not too big for a 305 with a stick, but on the edge for a stock converter.

I have run the Crane 100052 in a 305 in a truck. Flat top pistons. 350 TBI truck heads. 9:1 compression. Dual plane intake with a Q-jet. Shorty headers and dual 2.25" exhaust. Ran very well with a TH350 and a 2,500 stall behind it even with the 2.73 gears the truck had from the factory. If memory serves me correctly I ran that cam in a 102° ICL, 8° advanced from straight up. Good low-end torque, good idle with a noticeable chop and it would pull to 5,500 rpm under load in the 305. I put 059 Vortec 305 heads on it and it would pull to 6,500.

All things being equal the single pattern grind will make more low-end torque because you can tighten the LSA and have less overlap.
