Will these heads work?
I was wondering if heads with casting numbers 14096217 will work with the tpi in a 90 formula. They will be going on a 355 with a LT4 hot cam.I read on the board that the intake bolts might be wrong. How would I check this? I would like to know before I spend money on reworking heads that might not work with my injection. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The center 4 bolts that hold the intake manifold are either at the same angle as the rest, or different. If they are the same, you would need to modify the intake base so you could get all the bolts in, but its not an impossible task. I did it with a mill, some people have used just a drill.

Would it be worth it to use these heads. Are they good castings? Why would they be at different angles? Would I need to have a machine shop modify my intake? I am only asking so many questions becauseI am on a limited budget( college) and I don't want to screw up.

I wouldn't use the 305 heads if i were you .The bore is alot smaller on a 305 than on your 355.Most GM heads made after 86' have the different intake bolt pattern which amounts to the 4 center bolts going into the head at a different angle.I did just the opposite of what you want to do,i used tpi heads on an older block that is carburated.I used a dremel tool to ream the center intake bolt holes bigger until it fit .I don't see where you would have any problem. It just takes alittle patience.

14096217 350 55-86 350/300hp crate engine, 64cc, 90° intake bolt angle
My buddy just used a drill and has no problems getting the correct angle on the 4 center intake bolts; but he's unusually mechanically inclinced also. Still, it didn't look hard to me.
Being on a "limited budget" is one reason to use them and only if they didn't need any expensive work. Otherwise I'd look for some other 64cc heads that were ready to install. There are MANY to be found in the NET or eBay that won't require the intake bolt modification.
. . . and, I wouldn't even consider using the 305 heads unless you have access to PROM tuning (which you're going to have to have anyway) to deal with the compression ratio. Also, the 305 heads, in stock form, will limit the potential of your setup considerably. Simply put, I wouldn't use them.

From what everyone is telling me, and everything I have read, My intake is drilled for 90 degree intake bolts( is this correct). I will probabaly use these heads since I didn't give much for them. I need to get the heads reworked and the missing valve replaced. I am trying to gather parts and info for my upcoming build. All info is appreciated greatly.

I checked my intake and it has the different bolt angle on the 4 inner bolts. The heads should work. What should I do to my heads as far as reworking them. I know I need a basic valve job, but what else? I appreciate everyones input.
