Fuel Injectors burning up
Fuel Injectors burning up
I have an 91 Camaro RS that has been burning up the fuel injectors within a month or so of new ones being put in.
It also has a parasitic draw that I need to figure out, could the injectors be the cause of the draw?
Any ideas that can help me figure this out would be helpful. Really don't want to pay a shop to figure it out as I like to work on my own cars.

TBI or MPFI? The injector power is off with key-off, so it shouldn't be the cause of the parasitic drain.

As RBob stated , the fuses (INJ 1 and INJ 2) that feed power to your injectors are supposed to be powered in the key "run" and "start" positions only . For the injectors to be being powered even with the key off means one of two things ;
A bad ignition switch that is not removing power to the injector fuses when the key is off , or , someone has butchered the car's wiring and someone's supposed "repair" or "customization" has power being applied to those two fuses when the key is off .
If you can state to me with 101% certainty that each and every wire in both the underhood and underdash harnesses are completely umolested factory configuration it's most likely your ignition switch . If ANY wires have been dicked with , aftermarket stereos , alarms and remote starters included , then finding the problem could become a lot more , , , let's just say , , "Interesting" ......

OrangeBird - I got the car from a friend that did have a stereo system installed into it but he had it professionally done so I don't think that is the cause. I'll ask to be sure and check the two fuses as well to see if power is constantly going to them. Thanks
RBob - I am not sure exactly which it is. I'll find out though.

Yes , if you do end up finding power on those two fuses with the key not in the ignition that would be the reason for both the phantom draw and the short lived injectors . If there is power on them with the key off the next step would be to unplug the ignition switch (located about halfway down the steering column ) and see if the power goes away . If so , great , your ignition switch is very likely defective . If not (or if a new switch does the same thing) then you will have wiring gremlins to diagnose .
