Transmission pan, cross member

I want to change my transmission oil pan, filter and oil. Problem: I cant get to loose these bolts under the crossmember. Someone said to me, I should support it with a jack while unbolt the crossmember. But where exactly do I have to put the jack on, cause I dont want to have everything dropped lol Can someone help me, what is the easiest way?

Re: Transmission pan, cross member

Can I jack it up right behind the crossmember? (top of the 2nd picture)

Re: Transmission pan, cross member

I would just support right behind the crossmember on the tailshaft area of transmission with a jack and remove the crossmember for easier access since its only a few bolts to remove, jsut make sure jack pad has tailshaft secured so it wont slip off jack pad.

Re: Transmission pan, cross member

I use a short socket and extension to get to the bolts.

Re: Transmission pan, cross member

Good job. You did it right by using a couple of bolts as a hinge to let the fluid out of the pan as your picture shows. There is nothing worse than a whole pan of transmission fluid coming down all at once.

What TTOP350 said is correct: I use a short socket and extension to get to the bolts.
1/4" drive does the trick. If you wish, now you can remove the cross member and grind
some notches to make this job easier in the future.

A swivel socket works well
