Re: 83 z28 4 speed (rare)
Probably not a 4-spd, at least not originally.
The 4-spd was only used in 82 in these cars. (V8 ones) It was replaced w the T-5 in 83.
If it's a HO car, w L69 engine, then that option was in that range of production #s. That's easy to tell: the 8th digit of the VIN will be 7 if it's the L69. The VIN will start out with 1G1AP877. That digit will be H for the LG4 (grocery-cart 4-bbl 305, the same as the one in the Caprice for example), and ... something else, can't recall what, for the "Crossfire" dual TBI 305, which was only available w automatic in any case.
"Rare" is pretty much a non-issue with these cars, especially for one in rough condition; and above all, one that has ANY body rust, which is all but fatal to them. Makes NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER to the value. If it's the L69, and was in terrific shape and all original, with all the original L69 stuff still there; OR, if it had been METICULOUSLY modified, retaining as much as possible of the original relatively "rare" stuff like the air cleaner while improving its performance (I had a 400 in my 83 L69 car for many years as an example), then it would have some minor degree of value for that. From what you describe though, it sounds like yerbasic beater that's been through the wringer, like about 95% of all the rest of these cars. But by all means go look for yourself, who knows, it could be a gem in the gravel.
