So, who makes a decent MAF?

So, after tearing *** around town today, I stopped at the post office, went to fire up the IROC and it idled rough.. then died. I kept firing it up, gassing it a bit but it would just start to die again. I finally got it to start and run after about 6 trys and she got me home just fine (About 4 miles up the road). But when I went to start it back up it sputtered and took another crap. I checked the fuel pressure and she is at a bit over 40 psi at the rail. I tried unplugging my MAF and it ran rough for a bit.. then it settled and the check engine light came on and it smoothed out (As I understand it the ECM kinds estimates when in this mode). Anyway, I plugged it back in and it's back to taking a **** again.

I am going to try swapping out the MAF sensor based on this troubleshooting (Oh also... My injectors are only about 3000 miles old)... but I am having an issue finding one I trust...

On one had you have some for like.. 75.00 on fleabay. Over at Autozone and O'Reilly's they have them... but they get **** reviews. Then there is a 75.00 unit from Hawks.. but it is used (Although guaranteed to work on start up).

I found an original.. but they want an arm and a leg for it (Like 350.00).

I am thinking the Hawk's unit... but before I pull the trigger... do you guys have a good source for these?

Rock Auto lists the Spectra Premium MA-157, which in the pics looks to be the same as the Wells SU-145. Haven't heard much about the 'Wells' MAF lately, but it was a popular upgrade 15 years ago. It's a more modern design, that flows better than stock. Not an endorsement, I've got one but haven't gotten around to putting it on the car yet.

@Drew , do you know if this has a burn off circuit or does it throw a code 36 for the lack of a burn off ?

IDK. Google "thirdgen.org wells maf" and there are a lot of threads in the early 2000's. By all accounts it's a direct plug and play substitute.

Interesting...

Seems to be the same one they sell at Oreilly's.

I see you're wisely avoiding a ripoff already but just the same from my reading: avoid the Granatelli.
