427 SBC Torque Monster
Spent some time on the dyno yesterday on a SBC 427 build for a good friend of mine. He wanted a SBC with BBC torque down low for his street build. This engine laid out some impressive numbers.
Was a very efficient engine only required 32 degrees of timing it did not like 34 degrees and it did not like 30 degrees.
This is what I came out with and it was no budget build LOL.

This will be the only one of these I will build I can take it off my bucket list as I have wanted to this build for a long time and it came out as planned.
Dart SHP block 3.875 stroke X 4.185 bore sonic tested 3 blocks and this one was the best one

Callies Comstar crank
Scat I beam rods 6.0
Custom Wiseco dished pistons.
Ultradyne HYD roller on a GM step nose core I used the GM spider and GM roller lifters reduced the base circle to 1.050 Lifters were quiet block need no oiling modification LOL
AFR 210 heads 75 CC chambers
Eddy Air Gap intake
750 Quick fuel carb, Wanted to go to a bigger High speed air bleed but the customer said leave it alone it was fine.
Scorpion 1.5 rockers
Champ 8 quart pan
10552 Oil pump

Probably a very mild cam. Should be very fun to drive. Tell the owner good luck getting traction hahaha

holy smokes, this is basically the engine I want to buy/have built next year! awesome. I plan on throwing a Holley Sniper EFi system and having a nitrous plate on it too. what di an engine like this cost. how can I get my hands on something like this !!

Curious as to what prompted you to go with the shorter stroke (3.875") vs the Dart version of their 427 (4.00").
The machining and expertise required in assembly notwithstanding, similar results might be had with Darts own 427 shortblock, AFR heads and a cam following the specs of the OP.

The more I research this build, the more I like it.

I would not use a 4.0 stroke in non raised cam tunnel block unless the customer would spend the extra money on the Callies X-D rods.
If I had used a 4.000 stroke the base circle would be to small the lifter would have gone below the dog bone.
Reduced base circle cams cause to much pressure angle on the lifters and when the lifters are not happy it will let you know.
Big bore short stroke wins every time.

While I have experience in the automotive machine shop, that was many years ago. Maybe I can get an internship at a shop when I retire...!

AFR heads on top of 427 cubes gonna make good power with even a flat tappet cam. What's the big deal? I bet that motor cost more than a built LS3!

Yeah but an ls3 isnt making that torque. My buddy has a pump gas 416 ls3 head deal. Its over 600 hp flywheel for certain but its not 600 lb ft, but its cammed for 6000+ rpm with the shorter runner ls3 intake
A small cam truck intake build would be interesting but in the end it still not that cheap, but would save money since you can use stock block and heads/intake
