87 vette head springs pressure
Spring pressure doesn't have anything to do with the casting really. However, IIRC even the vette cams of that era were reaallly weak. Those springs prolly aren;t good for anything other than a stock replacment cam..and even then..they sould probably be replaced anyway.

yeah factory seat pressures were in the 80lbs range
They can't get much more than 110lbs even with shimming. The chilton i have for 82-90 fbodies says 1.72 inch installed height and 194-203 lbs at 1.25 inch.

i just checked my http://www.competitionproducts.com catalog. They make a real good 1.25 inch spring called the 2300. It has the following specs
1.850 inch 105lbs
1.8 120lbs
1.75 145lbs
1.5 250lbs
1.25 345lbs
1.125 440lbs
and will not coil bind until 1.0625.
They say it will support .6"lift
it is 80bucks

The Corvette cams were the same as the f-body cams, and the Corvette heads use the same springs as the ZZ3 crate motor, cuz they use the same heads. I dont remember the exact number but its close to what they listed above.

The short answer is, barely enough for lame stock cams, when they're brand new. Completely, hopelessly inadequate for any even moderately aggressive aftermarket cam intended for performance. It hardly matters to an enthusiast when they're in the garbage where they belong.
Typically, stock springs are about 100 lbs on the seat when new and installed to spec, and about 250-275 at your typical stock lifts in the .400" range. Their open pressure rapidly increases with lift beyond that, leading to fatigue failure of the springs themselves, and excessive stress and wear on other valve train parts.
