Ignition Modules. Who is using what?
My 355 has developed a misfire at or around 5000 RPM. Still pulls like a freight train up to that point but then starts to miss.
While I've yet to get further into it, tests have shown that the short block might be going away. But the way the engine runs otherwise: Idle good, cruise good, overall driveability good, leads to believe it's something specific rather than general. Maybe valve springs but the history of these Comp 26918's has been excellent.
Now to my question: Who is running what as an ignition module?
I've a small cap MSD distributor of ancient origin combined with the MSD6AL ignition box. Perhaps that is dying. However the modules should be swapable from one brand and configuration to another. Presently I've bypassed the module choosing to use the box instead.
Who has what? MSD. Accel. Nology?
What are your recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

I have ZERO faith in MSD products. They have failed me over and over and over again in the past. Run the factory HEI ignition components and see if it still gives you issues.

Re: Ignition Modules. Who is using what?
I've heard a lot of bad regarding MSD however for the last decade or so and probably over 200 00 miles on various engines and the 6Al box and ancient distributor haven't let me down yet. That said, maybe their time has come.
Unfortunately, I unloaded all of my spare parts when I moved cross country. That included a couple of HEIs and a Mallory distributor. So it's easier for me to drop in a module and bypass the ignition box as a way of testing.
Or it might be that I pick up a replacement distributor altogether although I would probably pass on an HEI. I'm not particularly fond of the large cap format.

I personally would recommend Davis Unified Ignition. Good stuff.

Buy this Crane HI-6 and be done with it. Works like a champ with the LX92 coil. Can rev to 7k with no problems.

You can replace the icm in the msd with a gm module.
The 369 has been a good choice for years. I’m not sure if it’s made the same but it’s
ACDELCO Part # 19179578 {#10482827, AD1943A, D1943A}

Yes, the icm in MSD distributor is what went bad...ground wire broke. The internals also rusted.

Re: Ignition Modules. Who is using what?
Replacing the ignition box is one thing. Determining it needs replacement is another. Hence my inquiring about ignition modules. And for what it's worth, some schools of thought skip past the requirement for a box altogether. If the module proves successful (and by default points to ignition box as the culprit) I may just run with a distributor as a stand alone.
There's always the option of repairing the box too of that's what failing. Or a replacement as suggested.
