Lifting Engine To Swap Oil Pan
Since I have the trans out, I'm going to replace my oil pan and pump. I have a cherry picker and plan to unbolt motor mounts and lift the engine the few inches needed to get the pan in and out. Where is the best place to lift from?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Re: Lifting Engine To Swap Oil Pan
you're so close to just pulling the motor out and doing the job the easy way...
without all the oil and crap dripping on you and the hassle of hoping you got the pan seal installed correctly

Re: Lifting Engine To Swap Oil Pan
If you're willing to lift the engine up to do the pan then there really is only a couple more things that need to be disconnected in order to pull the engine completely out. especially since the trans is already out of the car. I was very surprised how little time it took to pull the original 305 out of my car.
while the engine is out it would be a great time to do the dreaded engine mounts

What naf and Tyler and Homer said.
Net-net, you might even be able to do the job QUICKER overall by pulling the motor, drive-in to drive-out; just because it's SO MUCH eeeeeeezier to do it that way than to lay up under the car, fighting motor mounts and oil pumps and things in the way you can't see and crap dripping in your eyes. Not to mention, the likelihood of getting a leak-free installation being SO MUCH greater, just from it not being so much of a fight. Plus you get to do all the might-as-wells you might run into at the same time, quickly and eeeeeezily. Like, quarter car washing the engine bay, putting in a better converter, fixing exhaust leeeeks, ... the list just GOES ON.

Yup, that's a definite good idea... put in brass ones instead of steel.

Re: Lifting Engine To Swap Oil Pan
Thanks for all the feedback and inspiration lol. My son and I are going to go ahead and just pull it next weekend. The tranny and exhaust are already off anyway as I had said, so just doing my homework now to make sure I understand where to attach the chains.

Re: Lifting Engine To Swap Oil Pan
Grade 8 would be fine, I believe they are 3/8-16 holes. Use thick washers to make sure the chain doesn’t slide over the head of the bolt.
i also shoved cardboard between where the chain rested on the heads when under tension since I have aluminum heads
