need help!
my car after sitting a day or so gives out crazy amounts of bluish smoke at start up...bad!
as it warms up it goes away and no more smoke..
engine runs well, strong,,,no coolant or oil missing or mixing...

it does this when I give it an oil change,,,as oil gets dirty and thicker,,,never any smoke at cold start up...

does not smoke once engine is warmed up...1985 z-28 305 4 bbl...175 000 km,,original.

I was told valve seals,,,,..not rings??
help!
thank you in advance.

Re: smoke cold start up
Mine smoked after sitting warm for a few hours and only at start up. Just one big puff of smoke and that was it. New valve seals fix it right up!

Re: smoke cold start up
In all likelihood, if the preponderence of the smoke is only on start-up, your issue is perished valve seals.

If it smokes severely on DECELLERATION - especially decelleration from high RPM, you may have an issue with rings.

A compression test is an important indicator of whether you have an issue with your valves or your rings. You may have fair compression if only the ring for oil-seal is failed. A cylinder will have almost no compression if you have a stuck, or damaged valve.
