SMOKE SMOKE SMOKE

When i bought the car 2 years ago the exhaust fumes were clean, now my car smokes a hell of a lot when i start it/any acceleration. it has a 305 tbi with 166,000 miles on it, and flowmaster exhaust with the cayt removed. but the smoke just started about 6 months ago, does anyone have any ideas on how to fix/what is causing this, thanx

Re: SMOKE SMOKE SMOKE

I had the same problem, it's your valve stem seals. They're worn and need to be replaced. It's a very common problem. When your car cranks it smokes and when you're at a red light and you hit the gas the smoke comes out and eventually burns out, but if it smokes all the time then it's your rings. Have you changed oil lately?

What color is the smoke? Blue is oil, black is fuel, and white is coolant. Makes a difference as to what the issue may be.

Also is it when the car starts up after sitting for awhile or does it smoke all the time?

Re: SMOKE SMOKE SMOKE

I know what you are going through I have had enough 305's in my life. It could be valve guides, rings, camshaft, and various other things. What you have to do Is a good 'ol fashioned compression test. That will tell you exactly what is going on. You can pick up at Compression Tester up from any auto parts store, tool supplier, etc. for like $25.00 - $60.00 (depends on brand name).
