That is a needle thrust bearing - commonly referred to by the trade name "Torrington" for the manufacturer who employed it's inventor Edmund K. Brown.

It could fit any of millions of different machines made from their introduction in the 1930's to present day. They are often found inside automatic transmissions and steering columns - including the types used in third gen's. That is not to exclude other possibilities but I must admit I don't know of any other places on a third gen you would find one of those.
