87 camaro will not shut engine off
hi need some help!! my ignition will not turn off. i replaced the ignition cylinder to no avail. the engine shut off when i tilt the steering wheel aggressively a few times, with key in off position however my brake n SES lights remain on as wel draining the battery..

The ignition switch is mounted down on the steering column and is activated by about a 10" linkage rod from the ignition lock. So look further down the column. There are some plastic bits and it may be broken or bent or the rod has come loose or something.

No. Just take the hush panel off under the dash and it should be obvious. You may (probably will) have to lower the column to get at it. They placed it such that it is not easy to get to - probably for anti-theft reasons..... I had to in order to get at the shift lock cable mechanism which I had a plastic failure at the ignition switch. I just deleted the cable since I'm running a Hurst Quarter-Stick and it wasn't working well anyway. No regrets.
