Car died while driving, need help

Help! I was putting the car in storage, added Stabl to the half tank of gas, then topped it off. Ran the car thru a drive thru car wash, that I've done a million times, drove less than a mile, and it just died! No warning lights, no SES light, no noises, like someone just turned off the key. Tried to restart the car, it would crank, but not catch. Thought maybe gas cap, so I took it off, and replaced. Nothing. Thought wet maybe. So I waited, nothing. Towed car. Was told it's the distributor. This will be the 4th one! And this one only has less than 6500 miles on it. Any thoughts? Could it be something else? The car has been running great all summer after a really bad year last year. Any help is appreciated!

Did you use a heat sink compound on the bottom of the ignition module in the distributor? Pull off the cap and have it checked out

I don't remember. I have the Opti spark Distributor, you can't get to it unless you take off the water pump, so I can't just pop the cap. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I will ask about this. Thanks.

Aren't the optispark systems well known for failing when getting wet?

I'm imagining the car wash you went through had some kind of underbody water sprayer, I know you say you've been through the car wash a million times but maybe this one time it just called it quits.

4th gen LT1 engine? Replace the opti-spark system with a more modern system and be rid of it forever. Torqhead.com has a kit for you, great product.

I'm pretty sure there's no under spray unless they get extra bucks from you. I did have a really bad issue one time when I drove thru a large puddle. What a nightmare. It really didn't like that at all. thought for sure I killed it. It wasn't even that deep, maybe 4 inches.

Re: Car died while driving, need help

Can you give me more info??? Only problem is the car is currently at the dealer. This sounds like something we'd have to do ourselves? It's winter here, and we don't have a heated garage. Plus, I really don't think my husband wants to do this all over again. It was a nightmare for us the last time, plus it took almost a month, it wouldn't start when we were done, so we had to tow it to the dealer to finish it. It was our first real big car repair, and we really don't have the tools anymore. This will be the 4th distributor, so the idea of never having this problem again, is a winner. Thanks.
