305 timing cover
I bought this 92 Camaro, 305 TBI, that some idiot has played with. They have installed a cam, and did not know how to set timing.
I can see why, their aftermarket timing cover has no timing tab.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the stock 92 305 cover has the timing tab at 12 o'clock, right?
And where can a guy find a factory style cover for these engines? All of my options are turning up generic covers with the tab in the 2 o'clock position.

Re: 305 timing cover
Junkyard item.
Any car or truck with a SBC that has a similar PS pump arrangement will have the 12:00ish timing tab. It started in the late 70s. The PS pump relocation caused by the front-steer linkage, which moved the gear up right next to the front of the engine which in turn force them to put the PS pump in a different place from before, is why they changed the tab location.
Doesn't have to be one of these cars, or TBI, or a 305. Any of em will do.

Awesome info guys. I'll check my local yard and if not I'll snag that ebay cover.

You could also go to an aftermarket balancer, and associated timing pointer. The factory one may have poor rubber in it by now anyway. I think I paid about $50 for a new balancer and not much for a new cover and a pointer for it.
