Lost a lifter
Hey guys so I was just disassembling a 350 I bought off a guy for 300 bucks and apparently I forgot to take out two lifters before I turned the engine over and hit the ground and vanished So my idea was just to replace all the lifters and keep the stock camshaft. Can I do that? And if so how would I go about breaking them in? Also I cannot afford to put a new cam and neither do I want to take a chance of grenading my engine Because I don’t know I had a break in the cam and don’t trust myself with the process
Re: Lost a lifter
If it's a flat tappet cam and you can't afford a new cam, you can't afford to be refreshing an engine. If it's a roller cam, they don't wear to the cam lobes, so you can just get a fresh set of lifters.

Re: Lost a lifter
You can get away with NEW lifters on a used flat tappet cam. That's fine. You just don't want to put used lifters on different cam lobes or on a new camshaft.
But as Drew said. If a cam and lifters isn't in the budget what are you even doing?
Roller cams excepted. They are expensive. But you can replace roller lifters at will or even juggle them in a fit of drunken rage and then put them in any old hole. They should not be wearing into each other at all.
