Light blue smoke
Light blue smoke
Hello all, a little back story. 84z H.O has sat since 2001 it has been started and moved frequently during this time but was never road driven since around 01. I have done cap/rotor/plugs/wires/egr valve/map sensor/CTS/02sensor/2 oil changes. It runs rich i believe but i have got rid of 5 codes and nothing has came back for about a week now. Now my question is, upon start up there is no smoke, but if i give it a nice revv up in park i see light blue smoke, should i drive her for a couple hundred miles to see if she gets cleared out? Or is it the valve seals or rings? Have put thicker oil and zinc additive to try and help it as well as a can of seafoam in the fuel twice. Thanks for reading.

If the valve stem seals are original 1984 then they are shot.

If the valve guide seals are original from 1984, then for all practical purposes, it doesn't even have any.
All it has, is O-rings in the bottom of the retainers, to sort of pretend to keep the oil that pools up there from dripping down the valve stems. Almost totally ineffective when brand-new; nothing but worthless dead weight after acouplathousand miles.
Install "positive" ones and leave the stooopid useless O-rings off.
Probably also needs intake gaskets. Another very common thing that deteriorates on old stock motors.
Put the right oil in it, and don't worry about the ZDDP. Waste of money. It's already broken in. Too late for that to help the things that it would help if the motor was freshly built.
Runs rich = needs the fuel well plugs epoxied over. Do an Advanced Search on my userID and the phrase "dissimilar metal electrolysis". You'll also find that fixing that, will help the oil smoke.
