do the tranny and the motor run off of the same computer?

i gotta 84 ta with the q-jet on it
and i was wondering if i could somehow disconnect my computer from the motor so i can put a vacuum advance on the distributor and also so i can put it to what timing i like it at

if this is possible could you please tell me what i have to do to disconnect it


or if you think it will screw something up

The only thing the computer controls on your tranny is the TCC. If you disconnect it, your tranny won't lock up above 30-40 mph and you will get worse gas milage.

Also,(I may be wrong) but isn't the q-jet computer controlled? Wouldn't you have to get a non-computer controlled carb?

yah thats what i figured it did with the tranny


yah the stupid carb is computer controlled, dont really know what it does but i know there are some wires that hook up to it
