Opinions on this Built Engine

Built close by me by a very reputable Shop. What do you guys think of the components and price? This is in Canadian $$
I

cant stand the Orange and it’s not going to match my Blue IROC. So how much of a mission to strip all the paint and redo it Black.

Re: Opinions on this Built Engine

No way. They can't spell and those don't appear to be Vortec heads. Maybe aftermarket IDK. They don't have the sawtooth pattern.

Also the price is ridiculous. Comparison with a Blueprint roller cam 383 w/aluminium heads:

https://blueprintengines.com/product...ock-bp38313ct1

And here's about the same thing in that listing for WAY less:

Re: Opinions on this Built Engine

absolutely not
1)vortec "style" heads? wtf is that supposed to be?
2)cam is equivalent to something else means its a low end chinese soft cam so no
3)the very generous estimate is about 150 horsepower over what it would actually make
(a gmpp crate 5.7 vortec with a 0.47 lift cam makes 357 horsepower, this is not any better and may in fact make less than that)

Re: Opinions on this Built Engine

what you need to buy is a vortec long block(crate engine) or complete vortec crate engine.
this thing has too many questionable parts and complete unknowns so i would say nay....

Re: Opinions on this Built Engine

Thanks for the responses guys. And my plan is/was to buy the 357HP Engine in the spring.
Just seen it listed and was curious as to the quality of the build for the price.
and being in Canada, my prices are a lot more then anything listed in the USA.
The 350/357 Engine will cost me $5089.

Re: Opinions on this Built Engine

we are in Canada so the premium (shipping, conversion etc)is a bundle.
trumps stupid tariffs are another massive ,unnecessary annoyance
as he seems to not grasp how much outsourcing American companies
do to Canada to get cheaper work done far better.i know,im a machinist.

you would be amazed at how many "made in the usa" items are not...
i used to make viper cylinder liners, harley v-rod oil and water pumps
and countless gm(heads,blocks,cams etc),ford,allison,borg warner ,
cummins parts almost allstamped"made in the usa"well the castings
or forgings may have been but the real work was not "done in the usa"

Re: Opinions on this Built Engine

check with summit, jegs, machine shops or performance shops near you or look at crate engines directly from gm.
the engine im building is basically the same as the gm crate engine :
sp350/357 (vortec (1996-1998 truck engine L31 5.7 with the gmpp 7151 roller cam, dynoed at 357 horsepower,410 ft lbs of torque)

I do like a nicely hand-dipped corndog. Maybe it was just the environment, but Disneyland had the best hand-dipped corndogs in recent memory.

Cozy Dog in Springfield, Illinois. The original, and best. And no hand shaped secret ingredients, made by Gene or anyone else.

Re: Opinions on this Built Engine

Nobody beats gene simmons' corn dogs. I know personally. I met him once at a truck stop. he said "hey kid, you like corn dogs?" I said "heck yes I do". He said "follow me back to my place for some!" and the rest is history.

Re: Opinions on this Built Engine

As far as the heads, they're probably EngineQuest 350 heads. Vortec Style kinda gives it away.
