What is this sensor-like thing I circled in red in the attached picture, exactly; as in what does it do and where does it connect to, or does it need to connect to somewhere, at all?

No wonder because the ram is a spare part I kept from my -now RIP- V6 However, I am not sure I've seen any part that looks like it on my V8 5.7L: under the plenum, there is MAT and obviously EGR and a vacuum hose connecting to plenum, but I don't recall anything else; can you point exactly to the part that does what this one did?

Oh, I see! My earlier response to the latter answer is explained here: I guess you mean Manifold Air Temperature (MAT) sensor on my V8. There we go Thank you. I kept this ram when I sent my V6 to the car heaven hence my confusion.
