Best Heads and Cam for 91' 5.7?

I understand the 91' 5.7 has a roller cam and uses speed density. I currently have a stock bottom end but was looking to add the following:

1) FIRST Intake
2) LT Headers
3) Heads and Cam

I was looking at this summit kit
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/t...make/chevrolet

Are there tuners available to tune the stock ecm for this setup? Figure I will need a better fuel pump and injectors too.

That kit may work ok except for the 72 cc head chambers. Way low comp. you want the 64cc chambers. Cam is a touch big but can work ok.

Where you located? Before you do anything you will want to confirm a tuner that can do your engine else you will need to learn yourself or go aftermarket ecm

Good point about the chamber volume didn't catch the cc on that kit. I might be better off just getting some AFRs and a similar cam with a 112lsa. I'm in Northern California, I know quite a few good LSx tuners but none that would tune a older L98 car. My performance goals are to have approximately 400/400 hp/tq on 91 octane, no meth or NOS, and a good performance weekend and occasional daily driver. I want the car to pull to 6K redline...or anywhere between 5800-6K rpms.

I'm not opposed to an HSR intake but I'm not sure if it fits under the stock Camaro hood. I do like the FIRST because it retains the factory style LTR appearance and seems to work well up to 6K rpms. I want this car to look like a TPI car under the hood but perform more like a more modern version.

Thats alot on stock shortblock. The first may get the torque close but idk about the power

it may be more money but afr 195’s and a 280xfi cam would get you a real hot combo

idk what you need to do about smog tho

That looks to be a pretty good cam. Didn't you run an HSR before the LS swap? If so did it fit under your IROC hood? On my 87' IROC I lost a rod bearing...not really a fan of the two bolt mains either. I guess I could just pull the entire motor out and put in a zz4 with FIRST or some other good long block option.

Re: Best Heads and Cam for 91' 5.7?

Yes i had an hsr on my 383 in my 89 iroc. It cleared but i did cut some spots under the stock hood where there was bracing. It slightly rubbed on the corner of the intake/tb.

I ran a cam abit bigger than the xfi and made right around 400 whp. Thats on a 383.

on a rebuilt L98, bored .060 over, with the hsr and 280xfi with old afr 190 heads it made 330 by 5600 and floated valves. With proper springs it would have climbed to 360 around 6200-6400 by looking at the slope of the graph. Better 195 heads might have done another 20-25 hp imo

I have the 195 afrs on my vette with a miniram. They are performers for sure. Worth the extra over others.

Well for one most probably wouldn't notice the difference :-), but I don't have smog in the County I live in if you can believe that. Thanks I will look up Wong's Performance, I see there is one in Washington.
