Block rust removal?

Hello All, I just picked up a 2005 5.3 for my swap... The block is all rust and the paint in almost all gone, but the inside looks good... i was going to to soak the block in rust removal and was wonder if I should take out the crank and pistons or can they stay connected in? Thank you!

Re: Block rust removal?

They can stay installed, if you have a way to keep contamination out.
