I'm sure this is a long shot, but I just bought my 1987 Trans Am GTA and I'm currently in the process of figuring out / undoing a lot of the things some previous owner did. So far I've removed all of the wiring left behind from an amp/sub in the back and removed a remote controlled alarm that was attached with a single screw but had no wires connected. Anyway, while looking around under the hood, I noticed this random connector with a single black wire, not connected, and with nothing obvious in the area for it to connect to. It's in the rear passenger side corner of the engine bay.
Any ideas?
It's coming out of the large wire loom below.
Please excuse the dirtiness, I've only had it a few days.
Chances are it's a diagnostic hook up for some long obsolete piece of equipment. The blue wire taped to the harness bundle is another. There's another next to the fuel pump relay. Completely normal to not be connected to anything.
Is it green? If so, I'm pretty sure it's the connector you use to set the dwell when adjusting a factory computer controlled carb. At least, that's what I use to set it.
That wire bundle goes to the factory ECM and some other stuff like the radiator fans, and some AC stuff. It has the MAF, TPS, and IAC in it.... you could likely trace it back through the bulkhead to the ECM under the passenger side of the dash.
