Naval jelly eats rust without changing the diameter of the lifter bore.

I'm going to need more than just a lifter hone to clean this block up and thought any thing less than an acid bath wouldn't clean it up. However i never even thought of naval jelly for the rest of the block.

hot tanking wouldn't cure that eh? how much is an acid bath?

naval jelly is about $3-4 a can, good stuff, it's thick. It's basically a phosphoric acid jelly, autobody places will have similar stuff in a liquid and gel form, Rust-Mort comes to mind.

Bought some permatex naval jelly today, so we'll see how it works out. Smelled pretty good, kinda like cherry or something, and then i read that it may cause respiritory irritation and got me thinkin why theyd make it smell so good, oh well.

Hot tanks use alkaline lye which is good for oil and grease, but it takes an acid to do anything to rust.
