1987 GTA Map Sensor Location

I have a 1987 GTA 5.0L I am experiencing running issues and some in this group suggest changing the MAP sensor. I can't find one on the car and I read online the car does not have one that correct?

You have a MAF sensor from factory, not a MAP. What code is coming up? You can try unplugging the MAF and see what kind of difference it makes. It's a common fail point

Hi, yes I had a brand new NOS Bosch MAF sensor and swapped that in and it made no difference.
This was my post
Hi, I am in dire need of some help as I am baffled and lost. I have a 1987 GTA I am the original owner car has only 11,000 original miles. Car has been my baby for 33 years. The issue I am having has been going on for a few years. Car runs great, starts right up drives like new, but after bringing the car up to temp driving it around then turning it off and letting it sit a bit is where things go bad. The car restarts perfect and drives then 5-15 min into driving the car it looses all power and you have to pull over or it will just stall out. I let the car sit only 2-5 minutes car starts right up and runs fine again Car is 100% stock 100% original no mods, never raced, here is what I have done to the car so far.

Dropped and flushed gas tank and replaced electric fuel pump that went bad (unrelated issue) I was having the power issue before and after fuel pump replacement.

New spark plugs, new cap and rotor

New gas filter and air filter

New OEM Bosch MAF sensor as I had one.

New engine Temperature sensor (upper front of engine)

I really thought it was my catalytic converter that might have been clogged so I replaced that with a Magnaflow cat.

I ordered a new Coil and ICM I am trying them next

Assuming you're getting an engine light when it starts acting up, have you pulled the codes? That'll be your first place to start before aimlessly spending

Funny part I get no dash lights that come up. Car runs fantastic but then runs like i have a clogged CAT in a split sec after a hot restart.

Have you checked fuel pressure when things get funky?

I would get a scanner hooked up and see what's going on beyond a no-show engine light.

Tough to do as the issue goes away 1-3 min after shutting off but the fuel pump is new and I was having that issue before the fuel pump crapped out

And when you start it back up a few minutes later, it's perfect and you can drive home trouble free? Does it only get weird if you turn the car off and start it again, or does it shut off some times as you're driving?

Car runs great, I can replicate the issue in this order.
Drive car for at least 15-30 min runs fine never had a issue on first start.
Let the car sit a bit but not long enough to cool off egine
Restart car and after 5-15 mins power is lost. Pull over let car sit 1-3 min car restarts and runs but if you continue to drive it will occur again

But first time driving you can go as long as you'd like without issue? Only starts acting up after you've turned it off once?

Re: 1987 GTA Map Sensor Location

Sounds possibly like an ECM issue. Also lines up with an issue that I had that was caused by the MAF burn off relay calling it quits. Check the car for any stored codes and go from there though. If there are none stored, then I'd look in to the ECM further.

Do you know the pin trick for reading codes straight through the car?
