Charcoal Canister Alternative?
Hey yall, I've been doing some research about replacing / removing the charcoal canister on my car, but haven't really found a definitive answer for my idea. I see lots of people claim to just cap the vacuum line, put a filter on the end of the hose from the tank, and switch to a vented gas cap. I don't really want to do this... However, is it possible to remove the canister, but keep the purge valve's vacuum & fuel line connected to the throttle body, having the fuel vapor go through a fuel filter such as
What consequences would this cause to idle and drive? (As this would no longer cause the system to be computer controlled).
Lastly, for anyone who might say to just leave it intact; I was cleaning up around it and discovered a bunch of little white mites have decided to make the canister their new home... with no way to properly clean it, figured it was time to ditch it and rig something else up lol.

When I did ls swap with a 5.3 I used TPI air filter system and kept the charcoal can operational in it's stock location. When I switched to an LS3 I did not think the TPI air box would flow enough for that engine. I then used a cold air intake that placed the filter in the space where the charcoal can originally was and move the can under that area behind the bumper. If it were me, I would replace or rebuild and keep the system functional, If for no other reason than to limit the gas odor in the garage.
