I am going to buy a LT-1 cam for 20 bux, now what do i have to do to my 91 305 (TBI) motor to swap this,

Do i have to put in new springs, new valves, do i have to change out my hydraulic lifter,

Any help would be awsome

the front of the cam has a drive pin for the dist

you can remove it and I think it will work otherwise.

You can probably use the old springs.. just shim them a little..

But, a cam swap is a good amount of trouble.....i don't know if I would go stock LT1 cam if I was going to do it.

I have heard the LT1 cams work good with TBI cars. I don't know the specs on them, but I do know that alot of people are running 'em. Are you sure you have hydraulic lifters, they should be roller lifters. I don't think you'll need new valves.

As Z-Man said, you have roller lifters that should not have to be changed. Your springs MAY need to be changed...it couldnt hurt, but it's a pain in the @ss to change them without taking off the heads. If you pull those swirl port heads at all you might as well replace them (they suck!). Heres what I would use...

New Timing chain
Gasket
RTV
Cam

Thas about it. You should get quite a performance gain compared the the weenie L03 cam.

I have the Swirl port heads on my IROC(I got a Brand new truck motor for 900) and they are not too bad.....I suggest that you hold off for a month or so and buy some used LB9(305TPI) heads and get a valve job done to them around $200. Then you would have much bigger gains, but If you are just looking for a cam swap, just do that and forget the heads....maybe take yours and clean them up with a dremel, do some port matching(free if you have a dremal) while everything is apart......again bigger gains.....

well you I would not GET them ported and polish unless it was free or next to nothing.....If I was to go that rought, LB9 heads would be in order....I have a set from my 87 TPI 5spd.....I may be interested in selling them.....they will need a valve job....but come complete with LB9 valve springs and Valves....They are un damaged. Hell you could ru them as is but I would reccomend a valve job.

Listen to Camaro6spd

DO NOT WASTE ANY MONEY ON THOSE HEADS

Do what he says and get some used LB9/L69 heads. They are a much better design. You can port them yourself for next to nothing, and a 3 angle valve job is pretty cheap. This would make a pretty big difference in your performance, even if you didnt change the cam.

I say change the heads and the cam
It will feel like a new car

Dans91, I have a set of 305 TPI heads I wanna get rid of... They only have about 12k on a rebuild, and the engine ran great b4 i took it out. the valve seals dont leak at all! If your interested, drop me an email! Theyre complete too, with springs, rockers, and valves. I also have a roller lifters/pushrods if you need them.

87's should be new style centerbolt heads, which is what you need.
