Re: Air temperature sensor.

The ECM doesn't use manifold temperature to regulate idle speed. The problems you're describing would be secondary effects from fueling issues related to a malfunctioning MAT sensor (ECM does use MAT for fueling).

But, I'd also expect that you'd have other driveability issues besides just at idle in that case.

You can change it and see what happens I guess. But this is where it pays to have a scanner where you can monitor the MAT sensor output (and other sensors and information for that matter, which give you a much better chance at replacing the correct part(s) the first time rather than the often costly approach of guessing).

Re: Air temperature sensor.

If you have a laptop you could download tuner pro RT for free and pick up a ALDL cable from $50 to $80 and be in business.

This is what I plan on doing in the spring or when I need diagnostic or tuning help. A lot less $$$ than the old snap on MT2500 Brick or some scanner that won’t interface as well with our cars.

Again thanks for the info. But i don't have a laptop so I'll have to shop around for a scanner.

Re: Air temperature sensor.

If you have an Android tablet or phone, you can use this: https://www.aldldroid.com/ . It's what I've been using and it seems to work great. Connects to my tablet via Bluetooth. I record a data log to the tablet and then transfer it to my PC to view in Tuner Pro.

Re: Air temperature sensor.

Hey every body . Well i when ahead and installed a new air temperature sensor i had bought one already some time ago and it was kind a cheap only about 20 dollar so at least i know there's a new one in the car. Now I'm not saying it fixed the the problem i was having just yet but it seems to be doing better for right now . I was wondering if anyone knows how to set what i think is called the base idle on the throttle body you know that screw right above the throttle cable. I know some one messed with it before i got the car.
