Question of LU5 Crossfire alternator / pulleys

Question of LU5 Crossfire alternator / pulleys

Trying to help my neighbor replace an alternator in an LU5 Trans Am and the brackets don’t seem to hold the alternator correctly to align with the water pump pulley. Anyone know if the front brackets & pulleys are different between the LU5 and an LG4? I have an LG4 setup that I could use but would rather figure out what the problem is

No difference that I know of. I could be misshapen though.

Exactly how does it not align? Photos might help.

i'll try to get some pictures tomorrow. it seems like the alternator sits back too far and is not aligned with the right pulley groove. the replacement alternator looks correct. it's just weird - something is off.
before i even posted for help, i was actually referencing this post by you to make sure the belt was on the correct grooves:
