Who takes car batteries......... and pays me for it?

A member mentioned who does this in the recent past, but I lost the link.

I would much rather get paid instead of me paying a recycling fee. Thanks.

Check with your local scrap metal places, they buy em for the lead. You can search general scrap batt prices online, I scraped several in this vid but prices were down. I just assumed they were bout same as some that I did a few years prior.

Re: Who takes car batteries......... and pays me for it?

What you can get for them varies according to the price of lead. That being the only part of them that's reusable at all. Value is going down pretty much all the time.

Since there's no lead solder anymore, and lots of other uses for lead have gone away, it's not worth as much as it used to be, and probably won't ever be again. In fact I suspect it won't be long before car batteries aren't lead anymore themselves.

Oreilly Auto Parts has a recycling program. Give you a gift card to use in the store. I think the last few I turned in were $10 each. Paid for most of my last oil change.

Re: Who takes car batteries......... and pays me for it?

It must be different here in Manitoba Canada. When you buy a battery here you pay a core charge. You take your old one back and get the core charge refunded. Or if you collect batteries you can take them back to any store that sells batteries (doesn't matter if you bought from there) and they give you money on the spot. Currently it ranges from $14-$18 for a automotive battery.

$14 - 18 CD is about what, $10 - 12 US. Roughly the same there as it has been at times here.

It varies with the value of scrap lead. Might have been that price a year or 2 ago, might be negative today, or might be $20 US. It varies according to the price of lead. Somehow though I suspect it's lee right now than it has been at many times past, and isn't likely to ever go back up much, because lead isn't as important a commodity as it used to be, and is SO common anyway, without paying all that money to get it.

Current values aside some posters seemed to have trouble getting rid of car batteries. I was simply stating we can take them anywhere and get paid to do so. Perhaps here it's more of an subsidized incentive to dispose of the batteries properly instead of throwing them in the dump.

I see your bench vise on it's own stand. Great minds think alike.
By not mounting it on a bench, you have a full 360 degrees of access.

Interesting that they're showing catalytic converters in their video. There's supposedly a RASH of thefts of those going on right now, because the price of the various precious metals in them has skyrocketed lately. I'm seeing that lots of the scrap dealers won't even take them anymore because they know they're practically all victims of a Jeffrey Dahmer saw.

My friend and I have been buying cars/trucks just to cut the converters off and then get scrap weight for the trucks. He's legally made $50,000 off catalytic converters in the past 6 months.

Maybe you're the bug most of the time, but once in awhile you get to be the windshield.

Yes, but which side of the windshield? Lately I feel like the side that the bugs get splattered onto.
