350 crate motor / 10000 miles
ALL new parts on this swap. Started up first time today after along winter hibernation. ALL kinds of terrible noise under hood. Switched it of but something was still running. Popped the hood and put my hand on the distributer (it was spinning like crazy man) franticly cleared negative battery and it stopped. Turned the distributor a notch touched the negative then and nothing. If the distributor runs of the cam how in the _ _ _ _ could it run on with the motor off ??? It's being toad tomorrow so I washed it and saw oil on the ground. ****. Started it three days ago just to get some oil up and it ran ok for those two minutes. So instead of heading for the car wash were going to the shop. Crazy. Any thoughts? P.S. This is a well cared for 1984 Camaro Z-28.

Distributor is driven from the camshaft.
Camshaft is driven from the crankshaft via the timing set.
Sabotage maybe ???

So the engine stopped completely, I mean no pulleys or fan turning? And the dist felt like it was spinning?
Or was it run-on and you turned the key off but the engine continued to run?
I don't see the dist still spinning with the rest of the engine stopped, maybe some kind of weird electrical short in their might make you think it was.

Must be the space aliens again.
Look around and see if you see Elvis anywhere nearby.
Seriously, sounds like the starter got hung up on the flex plate.

I had that happen once to a buddy's car. We spent all day working on the engine, got it running, and he needed gas to get to work the next day.
So we drove to the gas station, and when he turned the key off, the engine was cranking, and we are looking at each other with the WTF look.
So we hurry up and pop the hood to try to disconnect a battery cable, but they were on there tight, and on their way to getting red hot.
We managed to get one off and didn't burn down the gas station. Lesson; if working on the starter at all, leave the negative cable loose until you are sure that everything is right.

Have experienced sabotage before by envious mechanics . The shop that did the swap dropped in the radiator back in hooked the trans coolant lines and did not add trans fluid resulting in a $1700 rebuild my expense . (raging anger). That was two years ago ( 10,000 ) miles. I have to wonder what they could have done to cause this now.
