Audio System killing battery, now car won't start cold
Hey guys,
I live up here in Pennsylvania, and its around freezing all winter long. I don't drive my car that much, so I start it every 2-3 days, if it will start. Sometimes the battery loses voltage, the starter cranks but then dies. I have to break out the jumper cables and jump it from my moms car most of the time. It is a prostart battery, I think the audio system might be killing it. I have a 300 watt amp w/ 8 inch bass tube. The lights dimmed, but I figured a .5 farad capacitor would settle that mumbo jumbo. It did, but the lights start dimming after 10 minutes of rumbling bass. SO what I am basically trying to say, is should I get a new battery, or will I just kill another one. It starts every 2 days, after that it gets tough to start, I haven't driven the car since early December, but I let it run 2 times a week roughly, so is it due to sitting? Okay I'll shut up now, let me know what you guys think.

First, stop calling yourself Pimp-whatever. Pimps are detestable people who ought to be put against a wall and shot!
You need a larger alternator. Period.
Try and get something in the neighbourhood of 100 amps. If the guys who sold you that audio gear know anything at all, they should be able to tell how much power the Alternator needs to put out for the gear involved. Call them.

I think that Jegs has a chrome alternator with a free 100 amp upgrade. Also you maybe want to invest in a quality battery charger. I bought one just after my 700 cca primo battery. The automatic ones you can set it ... and forget it!!!" (Bad infomercial)

If you are starting the car every few days and the battery is still dying then you have a short/bad alternator. The stereo will not drain the battery when the car is off, well it might if there is a short, but you probably have one else where. If you don't drive at all in the winter, add fuel stablizer, disconnect the battery and leave it until spring. Its not good to run the car for short periods and then shut it down. It needs to be driven or left alone.
