Factory Engine Colors...

I know this topic has been discussed before, but my question is; were ALL thirdgen engines painted black starting in '83, or did it depend on which factory the car was built? I know they were all black from '84 onward, but I was wondering if '83 was a transitional period, or if were they all painted black. I didn't want the engine black in my '83, so I painted it "Chevy Blue" which is just slightly darker than the GM "Corporate Blue". I kept the oil pan & rocker covers black. I like the contrast...

Re: Factory Engine Colors...

My 83 was black. V8, L69, therefore late production.

Can't speak to "all".

Not sure on the thirdgen stuff, but my canadian built 10/1982 G20 vans stock 305 had black paint over blue paint. Always thought it odd that it had both paint colors.
