no il to rockers new engine
ok.. I know this has been asked before but my situation might be a bit different. I have searched for info on this.
I just built my 355 (alum head, asm tubes edelbrock manifold etc) I used AC Delco 17122490 roller lifters and Pro Magnum full roller rockers. Researched the lifters and they should be a direct fit. Took them all apart and cleaned them out etc. I primed the engine using an old distributor and after probably 4 minutes I would start to get oil to the lifters. then another min more would start to flow. I have run the engine for probably at max 2 min (constant running) probably 8 min off and on,as its not running right. I am at a loss was to why the oil isnt getting there..It works when I prime it at probably 250 rpm with the drill. Seems like a running engine would be even better. After a min of running I get a squeek sound like a pushrod or lifter squeeking from being dry.
My other issue and maybe this isnt an issue is I have blue smoke coming out the exhaust. Is this just the new rings seating and letting oil blow by? I hope!!

Distributor not fully seated, not turning oil pump when running? Might explain poor running as well if the timing is off.

Sorry should have mentioned I have 50-60 psi at idle cold. Timing is roughly there +- a few deg

Is the lack of Oil only an issue for one side of the Engine?

ok... fired it up again. Let it idle probably 3-4 min or so. Finally some oil came out of most pushrods. cylinder 3 had no oil from int or exh.. didnt check the other side though lol was concentrating so much on just the drivers side and being close to the ign switch to kill it if need be. Im so nervous so much time and money in this engine!

Oil flow up through the Push-Rods (on a new build/ first few start-ups) can take a while for the Oil Pump to move the Oil everywhere...
A good amount of appropriate Assembly Lubricant, is going to be your best fiend here.
Even with Roller Valve-Train...
Bringing the Engine speed right up to 2,500 RPM, sprays/ splashes Oil all around the Bottom-End.
It also helps get Oil up through the Push-Rods.
The Assembly Lube is there to protect the Engine Components until the Oil has made it over the Rocker-Arms.

Re: no il to rockers new engine
So I ran it longer today and let it get to 195 deg. Oil finally came out of all pushrods! Still the engine ran super rough.. I decided to pull the sparkplugs and they are all wet and black. Im guessing too rich?? or maybe too cool of a plug? They are sutolite 3924. Funny thing is my BLM in closed loop was perfect.... Seems odd.. Maybe I =have coolant getting in the cylinders, but sure wouldnt think it would be in all of them!!!
