best cam suggestion for a 97+, L31 head Holley 8inj intake, headers, 0411
Spoiler
MANUAL Transmission . The lords transmission...
Want driveable. but If i want to send a regular LS to gapplebees that would be boomer candy.
I had a comp cam digital on order and it ended up being canceled because of backorder till october.on
Its a New Crate 99 5.7 I accidentally scored. with sub 5000 miles. .. part of being a Pro Mechanic . Guy put it in his truck and wrecked it. Gave me the motor.
Comp Beehive springs in my crate L31 heads.
I have the fancy high flow single plain Holley intake that supports 8 Big or 8 Small injectors to my L31 heads & basically any intake plenum I want to adapt to it. My brain is exploding on basically 2 or 3 things WHAT Whack Throttle body, or ram Air, or vortech supercharger do I want to run? / fabricate . I weld, and do fiberglass & carbon work as well.
How nuts a Cam Do I really want?
How deep do i feel I have to rip myself a new pooper shooter in the Suspension?, since this can be the most expensive part and ive never ever seen tubular arms for sale at a salvage yard
I will be running beautiful wrapped headers, a REAL flow master exhaust i scored at a PickNPull for $2 a foot! With no Cats of course.
Im building my own LS Harness on a 0411 PCM for my Essentially LT1 /LT4 ish 350. 24 pt reluctor wheel to run my 8 LS coil packs and 8 injectors. I still need to figure out if if I can do the tuning to put 20 hole, ultra high atomization LSX injectors. .
What if most of this new engine HP development is the injector heads, yalls know they went every few years, 2 hole, 4, 6, 12, 24, The smaller, the higher atomizing of fuel finer mist, MORE HP /Tq MPG.
Its going in the lightest truck GM made in the platform. A 94 Stepside, reg cab. Shortbed, Manual Ill lighten it up more with fiberglass or Fiberglass /Carbon bumpers. Maybe same on fenders / hood.
Wheels something light and stock ish size, maybe a little less rubber sidewall and a little more rim.. but i hate low-pro tires Maybe think like 17" Camaro rims on 235 50 zr17s Tube A Arm Air ride suspension. By the time im done shaving lbs maybe ill be sub 3500 lbs.
Comp cams tech support suggested no lower a ratio than 323 ratio. I have a Limited slip to add into it. ( + 70 Lbs ) Im wondering as light as im making the truck .. Ill probably be happy with something around 3.11 or 3.23 ? Itll likely break 400hp. Maybe 500. For sure If i get my tunes perfect and add a blower.
Im Building a benchtop programming / flashing setup for 0411 pcms.. I did the same for BMWS & Buell in the past.
I have not scored a 6 speed from a Vette / Camaro SS for it yet, but im hunting. Its got I believe that NV3500 5 speed.
Purpose ? Who knows, I have a Bmw wagon for light hauling, hooning. I have two 7.3 Powerstroke F350 Reg cab, F450 with a crane. for working. A dozen other assorted cars and motorcycles. ( I dont have a problem, im just a little nuts )
ID STILL , MAYBE? LIKE THE WIFE TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT, If she wants to. She drives a BMW ZHP 330Is 5 spd I built for her. Its 2 steps down from an M3 with the tune on it.
USE? Taking a jet ski to the lake, or General Boomer hoonigan behavior. . Its not my main truck. Itll go cruising, with HP and Fun.
ill build in added security features like cellular tracking & disable, An iron plate that will swing down and LOCK over all 3 pedals, ... PLUS its a stick. .

08-305-8 aka CC305 would not be bad either although the L31 would kick out more torque on a 108 LSA than that cams 114 LSA albeit less idle vacuum and rougher idle.
GMs SPO 357 hp 350 crate engine cam runs really strong as well. It is the smallest cam of the three but has the tightest LSA and it the intake centerline is 1° retarded so it makes good power.
All 3 really need a decent valve spring upgrade.
Biggest things to consider. How heavy is the car? What gearing and tire size? What is the intended use? What is your static compression ratio? Does it have headers? What kind of exhaust?

I forgot one other option that works really well. It is 220/224 @ 0.050, 0.495/.502 lift on a 110 LSA. Really wakes up a L31. Melling 22280. Idles pretty choppy at 750 rpm.

Sorry...
Retro-Fit Hydraulic-Roller, or 1987+ Factory Hydraulic-Roller?

I do not have any experience with the Performance of that Intake-Manifold...
But OEM L31 Heads that are in very good shape, have Valve-Guide Height/ Clearance established, and have Valve-Pocket Porting/ Bowl Blending...
Support 450+ HP without issue (and into the 500-550 range with further Porting... Compression increase and other factors will dictate results).

I was trying to research your Intake-Manifold... I believe that I found it.
Do you know the Part Number?
Anyway, what I saw was a very nice looking Single-Plane Carburetor-Flange Manifold.
You would actually gain a significant amount of Low to Mid RPM Torque (up to 40 Ft/ Lbs, depending on the Camshaft)...
By switching to the Edelbrock Vortec Performer RPM Air-Gap Manifold.
It has Bosses in each Runner for Nitrous Nozzles... they can very easily be machined for your Fuel-Injectors instead.
Or honestly even a Throttle-Body with the Injectors built-in, would be worth it just to change the Intake-Manifold.

thanks all for inputs, and advice...
thanks for help 83 G20, I edited my OP.
Thank you for your input @vorteciroc.. My elder brother has a couple engineering phds, a WS6 96 Firebird With a Boggling Batshits HP number Lingenfelter LT4 in it. Ill never do anything like his, Im just a senior mechanic not a nerd on yalls levels.

david vizard’s 447 hp vortec motor ran a custom 224/224 on a 108. You could call comp cams for a xtreme energy lobed 224/224 and put it on a 108-109. Biggest id run would be the xe276 224/230 on a 110
