roller cam recommendation

Roller cam recommendations- I have a 350 originally from an ‘87 IROC. Now it’s Q-jet carbed, stock heads and springs. Headers and free flowing exhaust only upgrade. Thinking to swap out the stock cam to something a bit better.....smooth idle is a must as this is in a highway cruiser car with a four speed and 3.42 gear...... no high rpm use at all, no racing. Any suggestions? What cam will work with the stock springs? Or is it not really worth it with the stock heads?

Re: roller cam recommendation

I'd go with a cam that has ~212-ish @.050 on the intake with no less than a 112 LSA. For your setup, should deliver a smooth idle and a good power boost.

Another option would be the ZZ4 cam.... 208@.050 on a 112 LSA. I ran that for a bit and it was very stock-ish sounding cam, with excellent idle vacuum, but still made great power in the rpm ranges you're targeting.

Wouldn't a 10185071 ZZ4 cam have to much lift @ 474/510 for the stock springs and press in rocker studs?

Oh, pressed in studs... yeah possibly.

But I'd try to stick with something around that duration for your goals.

Re: roller cam recommendation

Personally I would go around 218 @ 0.050 on a 108 or even 106 LSA. It will have an idle note but off-idle that size of cam is dead smooth
